For those who haven’t seen the official South site or received the mailing list e-mail, long-time South friend and contributor Will Harper is in a new four-piece band called The Brian Jacket Letdown. Developed out of a friendship between Will and pianist Tom Phillips, the band’s English and Brazilian members draw on a range of influences, moulding them into a sound somewhere between sunshine 70s rock, mellow folk and Brazilian tropicalia.

Their debut EP will be released this year on Genepool Records and features four tracks recorded in their basement studio in early 2005. The band has two shows scheduled, the first on July 7 at the Enterprise in Camden (Joel and Jamie are opening with an acoustic set), and are anticipating a busy year of live dates, recordings and new releases.
